What is Dry Cupping?
Cups have been used in healing in many countries for hundreds of years. Traditionally cups, which can be made of glass or bamboo, are applied to the skin surface by inserting ignited material into the cup to create a vacuum. The cups are rapidly placed on the skin surface to create suction. This is known as “hot” cupping. Suction can also be created through non-igneous cups using a pump, this is know as “cold cupping”. This is what we use in Energise Therapy.
This treatment is not painful and feels similar to deep massage work. It can be especially beneficial for patients that may have a sensitivity to dry needles. The therapy is soothing and can provide immediate relief from body aches and pains.
Cupping aids in healthcare and illness prevention in four main ways. One, it is warming to the body and promotes the free flow of Qi (energy) and blood in the body.
How Does Dry Cupping Work?
Cupping is applied based on this function to treat circulation disorders, pain caused by stagnation of Qi and/or blood, and numbness or tingling in the extremities. Cold hands and feet, menstrual pain, musculoskeletal disorders and headaches are all examples of disorders caused by a stasis of Qi or blood in the body. If left untreated, this interrupted flow of Qi and blood in the meridians can lead to more serious ailments. Furthermore, cupping can be used preventatively to increase circulation, balance energy in the body, and stimulate immune function.

Be it pre / post exercise / event the benefit of Dry Cupping far exceeds ordinary massage. The heat penetrates 3 centimetres into the muscle with minimal pain as the cups does the work a massage therapists hands would do. A session can be tailored to the Athletes requirements and special attention paid to injured muscles, joints or tendons. The massage itself will effectively remove the lactic acid built up in the muscle during exercise thus leaving your muscles /joints healthier and freer movement.
